As I discussed a few days back, this year’s numerology is 9 (because 2+0+2+5), the number of transformation and spiritual growth. For energy workers, numerology offers insights into the energy of our year, and when paired with the tarot it becomes even easier to understand the lessons we’re called to embody.
The tarot is a visual language that lays out the patterns and archetypal energies we experience in the course of a human life cycle. The major arcana cards are numbered, and show key moments in our soul’s evolution, while the minor arcana (the suits cards) speak more to karmic lessons that help us mature and grow.
TAROT KEY OF 2025 & GLOBAL REFLECTIONS
The 9 in the tarot major arcana is the Hermit, so this year the Hermit lights the way!
The Hermit is a seeker of wisdom, on a mountaintop, carrying a lantern to light the path not just for themselves, but for others. There are times in our lives where we have to really trust our inner authority, holding up the lamp of illumination on our journey, and trusting the philosophical and spiritual mysteries we’ve embodied.
However what I find fascinating about this card is that it can also speak to the idea of “false prophets.” Sometimes when we’re overwhelmed, we will grasp onto the loudest voice or brightest light in the room, mistaking it for a healing source just because it’s loud and bright.
How do we make sure we aren't being taken in by false prophets or false messaging? We have to go within and sharpen the tools of our own discernment, self trust, and personal authority. You can't trust others to tell you what is right or wrong for you, because ultimately this is your life.
This year’s energy invites us to come back into resonance with ourselves. We have to learn to trust ourselves and what we are doing in the world. The hermit is alone, appearing in the heavens, holding the hermetic lamp of wisdom. What belief and values help to ground you more deeply into your wisdom?
Now because this year ends in a 5 (you know, 2025), I also feel that the Hierophant Major Arcana is at play. So we have the inner wisdom and the possible false prophet of the Hermit juxtaposed against the Hierophant's energy of order, government, law, society, and the pressures of the existing system.
Right now with changes in our presidency we see many of these themes being explored by people who are wondering where to put their trust, and how the narrative of world events. Mark Zuckerberg announced earlier this month that Meta will no longer be fact checking posts, in favor of a community notes format pioneered by Elon Musk at X (formerly the blue bird, Twitter).
I've heard impressive arguments both for and against these changes, but either way, it's a reminder that these themes of philosophy, truth, meta-physics, and life, are showing up everywhere, and will continue to become more prominent in 2025. There are no easy spoon-fed answers.
Last year AI exploded onto the scene, and I was just noticing this morning that so many of our social channels and even private emails are flooded with AI messaging.
Over time I’ve started to recognize the unadulterated AI voice. I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world, but it will be up to each of us to work with AI as another exciting tool rather than as a total replacement for human thought and creativity.
In fact, Meta (yes back to Meta again) announced that they would be increasing AI character profiles on both Instagram and Facebook over the next year. Apparently there are thousands of existing AI profiles created and driven by Meta, and they create so much interaction for the platform that this social media giant plans next-level growth.
We can't look to large businesses and corporations to be our spiritual truth-tellers, because their bottom line will always be financial. If we want accountability around the socio-cultural movements currently happening in our country then we, the healers, the every day people, must be the ones to create that now. We are each the character of the Hermit, climbing our own mountain and connecting to our own clear thought.
The Hermit card is a reminder that our souls can evolve through stillness, through inner listening, and also through teaching others the wisdom we have integrated.
But we can’t learn those things if we don’t allow ourselves time and space to trust our own embodied wisdom. While I see the Star or Temperance cards as speaking more to self-care, the Hermit card reminds us to explore wisdom and metaphysical truth.
As this year brings a new presidency in the United States, more big decisions and lawsuits reviewed by the Supreme Court, and continued questioning about what it means to be human, the Hermit tells us not to get caught up in all of these worldly concerns, but instead to move to higher platitudes where the view is more clear, and to make wise decisions from a soul-embodied state.
MINOR ARCANA TAROT WISDOM FOR 2025
In the Minor Arcana, the Hermit’s energy expands into the four nines
Nine of Pentacles speaks to the inner focus and inner-sourced vision required to tend to financial wealth, and the quiet luxury of knowing you’ve worked for what you have.
Nine of Cups, what I call the “wishes come true” card, says that our emotional wishes can be met and that whatever we’re wishing for can manifest, so it’s worth looking at what our personal desires are.
Nine of Swords reminds us that we can eat ourselves alive with fear and worry if we get too caught up in our thoughts, or in the illusions of greater society. As energy healers we can return to all of our grounding and Reiki techniques if we feel overwhelmed this year. And of course the Hermit reminds us to go climb a mountain alone for reprieve.
Nine of Wands teaches us to cultivate inner resilience even if there are challenges or tests throughout the year. The fire of our determination may be tempered by life lessons, but only because we’re ready for them, and what we learn this year will help us transform into who we need to be to birth the soul vision we hold within.
I don’t view the tarot as good or bad. It shows us concepts so that we can decide how to work with them. There are such beautiful lessons in these cards.
If you want to work with them more deeply, I recommend you go onto Pinterest where you can see dozens of interpretations of these cards. Study them, meditate upon them, and allow your perspective to open.
If you love a particular card, print it up and place it on your devotional altar. Each card holds a sacred teaching.
The wisdom of the hermit reminds us that what we have learned so far, matters, and now is the time to bring forth our own wisdom.
