What Is Energy Healing?

Energy healing is a holistic practice that involves the use of energy to promote healing and balance in your body. Your body has its own natural healing energy and that this energy can be harnessed and directed to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. In fact, when your energy is aligned, natural health is the result. Many people with physical illnesses and diseases also have misaligned energy flow. As that flow heals, they heal. It seems like a miracle, but in fact it's a sacred science that modern western intelligence is still catching up to.

There are a ton of different approaches to energy healing, and as a multicultural woman raised in a diverse family, I've loved the exploration of energy. Chinese medicine, Yoruban spirituality, Native American religious tradition, Hindu Ayurveda and so many other spiritual and medicine systems around the world have energy healing components. Some of most well known in the United States include Reiki, acupuncture, and qigong.

HOW DOES ENERGY HEALING WORK?

In general, energy healers work with the body's energy field to identify and address imbalances or blockages that may be causing physical or emotional discomfort. They may use their hands, crystals, or other tools to channel and direct energy to specific areas of the body. Just as your physical system has a simple map of bones, organs, and tissue, your energy system also has a map where the energy is produced and tends to pool. Depending on modality, the system is referenced by chakras, energy meridians, nadis, and lay lines. Energy practitioners understand how to work with your body's energy field, like an auto mechanic working under the hood of a car.

CAN ENERGY WORK STAND ALONE?

Energy healing in the United States is often used as a complement traditional medical treatments, however in some countries it is absolutely the first form of healing and defense. Traditional Chinese medicine for example has been fully documented and studied for at least 5,000 years, and in addition to an extensive understanding of herbal compounds, Chinese medicine maps and addresses eral physical illnesses and where the energy of those illnesses is rooted in the physical body. Chinese medicine treats the imbalance first, before considering symptoms.

Although western medicine has effectively made its way around the world, many indigenous cultural forms of health rely first and foremost on an understanding of practical and spiritual energy, and energy healing is used to address a wide range of physical and emotional issues, including stress, pain, and chronic illness.

In the United States, energy healing legally is not a substitute for medical treatment, and can not legally be used in place of traditional medical care, regardless of the many religions and cultures in which energy healing is traditionally one of the most powerful things you can do for illness. If you are interested in energy healing for physical health, consult with a qualified practitioner in your desired modality, and discuss any concerns or questions with your healthcare provider.

5 Popular Forms of Energy Healing

✅ 1. Acupuncture:

Acupuncture is a form of energy healing that originated in China and involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body to help shift energy and blood flow towards the organs. In acupuncture these points correspond to electromagnetic pathways of energy, or meridians, in the body. The insertion of needles can help to balance and restore the flow of energy where it has become stagnant.

Part of the greater body of Traditional Chinese Medicine that includes mindfulness, herbal wisdom, and more, acupuncture is often used to treat a variety of health conditions, including pain, addiction, digestive issues, and mental health concerns. Clinical studies have show it to be highly effective for some of these concerns when used as the primary treatment. Most recently with the pandemic, I know that many people turned to acupuncture to help alleviate symptoms from Covid, as well as from vaccine adjustments.

✅ 2. Reiki Healing:

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan and involves the use of touch to channel energy into the body. Reiki practitioners believe that they are able to access and channel universal energy, which they can then use to promote healing and balance in the body. Reiki is often used to support the healing of stress, anxiety, and physical pain, and is used in some hospitals for oncology, neonatal, and hospice.

As a Reiki Master Teacher I've seen many clients and students work with Reiki flow. The most effective miracle stories have often come from students who learned the modality and continued a daily practice after that first weekend workshop. With many of my Reiki clients, I have found that the initiation of healing is very fast with this modality, usually showing some kind of result within a week or two.

✅ 3. Qigong:

Qigong is a form of energy healing that originated in China and involves the use of movement, breath, and intention to cultivate and balance energy in the body.

Qigong practitioners may use a variety of techniques, including physical movements, meditation, and visualization, to promote healing and balance. Qigong is often used to treat a variety of health conditions, including stress, anxiety, and physical pain.

✅ 4. Healing Touch:

Healing touch is a form of energy healing that involves the use of touch to promote healing and balance in the body. Healing touch practitioners channel energy into the body through touch, and may use a variety of techniques, including light touch, massage, and other forms of touch, to promote healing. Healing touch is most often referenced for including stress, anxiety, and physical pain.

Interestingly, Healing Touch and Reiki can often look very similar as modalities, but Reiki emphasizes the flow of universal energy, or Ki moving through, while Healing Touch really is about the power of human touch and the energy exchange that occurs therein.

✅ 5. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique):

EFT is a form of energy healing actually derived from an understanding of Chinese meridian points. It involves gently tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a specific issue or emotion. EFT practitioners may talk through negative emotions while manually tapping the energy through the meridians, to release blockages and imbalances in the body's energy systems. While EFT is used for a variety of physical and emotional health concerns, I have found it particularly powerful in helping people to reset their thinking and perspectives.

DOES ENERGY HEALING REALLY WORK?

I remember wondering when I was young if energy healing really worked. I was taught in Buddhism to keep an open mind, but also to look for actual proof in the form of tangible results.

When I was in my 20s I had a series of amazing results with energy, so much so that I can only say with 100% certainty that energy healing is real, and it's effectiveness really depends on the practitioner, the healing issue, and the timing.

The rules of energy healing are completely different from western medical science and its measurement parameters. A lot of people come to energy healing looking for results according to medical standards, when in fact energy healing is about a holistic journey and a whole-life view.

If you're curious about energy healing, I think the best way to see if it works, is to test it for yourself, and ask yourself if you feel better after a month or two. All of the modalities listed above are safe entry points into the world of energy healing.

I came to energy healing years ago and never thought I would be teaching, but it is a testament to the repeated miracles I saw and experienced, that I continue to share metaphysics and energy healing today.

ENERGY HEALING IS THE FUTURE

I totally believe that energy healing is the future. As the world becomes more global and technologically based, humanity is being forced to review and define our values. I believe that energy healing helps us connect with the intangible, emotional, and spiritual values we hold that are so critical to our survival on this planet. It's the energy healers and compassionate mindful people of the planet who will have the clear mind necessary to chart our way forward through climate change and political unrest. Everyone can learn how to heal themselves!
